The guide below outlines how to upload activities to Compass+ using our upload template.
When you click the link below and download the template, it will download straight onto your computer, check your 'Downloads' folder to access this.

Please note : Due to the language changes made in Compass+ at the start of the academic year, what you see in the screenshots below may be slightly different to what you see on your screen when logged in to Compass+, but the process/functionality is the same.
1. Select ‘Your Activities’ in left navigation under 'Activities':
2. Choose the year you want to upload your activities to:
3. Click on the up arrow under the 'Actions' column next to the activities you wish to upload:
4. Clicking this will load a pop-up window, asking you to confirm whether you would like to download and complete the upload template, or upload a template you have previously completed:
5. If you have not completed a template yet, or don’t have a populated spreadsheet of activities from a digital partner, click the 'Download Excel template' button. The download should appear in the bottom left of your browser, or in your Downloads Folder. Double click on it to open the spreadsheet. Add all of your activities to the template (there is an example activity in the spreadsheet to show you how to complete this.):
6. Once you have added your activities to the template (or have a spreadsheet with recorded activities from a digital partner), you are ready to upload. Click the 'Select file' button to select your template from your file explorer, or drag the file into the drag and drop box. The upload will happen automatically:
7. If there is an issue with your spreadsheet or an error in the activities you have added to the upload document, you will be notified where and what is wrong:
8. If the spreadsheet document is uploaded without any Learner UPNs assigned to activities, you will see a warning for each row where Learner UPNs have not been assigned. You can proceed with the upload and assign learners to your activity from the ‘View/Edit activity’ section:
9. If the spreadsheet document is uploaded successfully, you will get this message. Click 'Close' to finish:
Additional guidance on how to complete the upload spreadsheet
If you are using the spreadsheet template downloaded from the pop-up window, then to successfully upload your activities to Compass+ you will need to consider the following:
- Do not make any changes to the format of the spreadsheet or the columns appearing in the upload template or you will have issues uploading your template
- There is an ‘Activities’ and a ‘Benchmarks’ tab, please add your activities to the ‘Activities’ tab, and do not edit the ‘Benchmarks’ tab
- There is an example activity in row 7, to show you how this is done, this can be deleted before you upload your spreadsheet
- There are 8 columns appearing in the spreadsheet, we have listed guidance for each column below
- Only four of the columns are mandatory fields (these are marked with a * below), so the upload template will still work for activities if the other fields without a star are not completed for an activity
Column A – Benchmark*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Select a cell in Column A, and a drop down should appear on the right of the cell, select the appropriate Benchmark
Column B – Main category*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Once you have selected a Benchmark in column A, select the cell next to this in Column B, and a drop down should appear on the right of the cell, select the appropriate category for that Benchmark
Column C – Activity name*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Select the cell in Column C and type in your activity name
Column D – Start Date and Time
- Enter the start date and time for an activity in the following format: DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM
- The date and time should fall within this academic year i.e. from the beginning of August 2019 to July 2020
- Note you can only upload activities from academic year 2019/20 onwards
Column E – End Date and Time
- Enter the start date and time for an activity in the following format: DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM
- The date and time should fall within this academic year i.e. from the beginning of August 2019 to July 2020
- Note you can only upload activities from academic year 2019/20 onwards
Column F – Learners involved*
- Enter the UPN for all of the learners attending this activity, they need to be UPNs listed in your MIS for our system to recognise them
- Use a semi colon (;) to separate the learner UPNs
- You can now upload your activities without adding in any learner UPNs
Column G – School Lead
- Select the cell in Column G and type in your School Lead
Column H – Notes
- Select the cell in Column H and type in your activity notes
If you are using a spreadsheet downloaded from a Partner Platform, you will need to note the following:
- Make sure that the Benchmark fields are populated (only using Benchmarks 2 -8)
- Only six of the columns are mandatory fields (these are marked with a * below), so the upload template will still work for activities if the other fields without a star are not completed for an activity
Column A – Benchmark*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Select a cell in Column A, and a drop down should appear on the right of the cell, select the appropriate Benchmark
Column B – Main category*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Once you have selected a Benchmark in column A, select the cell next to this in Column B, and a drop down should appear on the right of the cell, select the appropriate category for that Benchmark
Column C – Activity name*
- This is a mandatory field, so you must complete this to upload your activity
- Select the cell in Column C and type in your activity name
Column D – Start Date and Time*
- Enter the start date and time for an activity in the following format: DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM
- The date and time should fall within this academic year i.e. from the beginning of September 2019 to July 2020. However any activities that fall outside the year you are uploading to, will require you to accept the upload of that activity and verify that you wish to add it to another year.
- Note you can only upload activities from academic year 2019/20 onwards
Column E – Start Date and Time*
- Enter the start date and time for an activity in the following format: DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM
- The date and time should fall within this academic year i.e. from the beginning of September 2019 to July 2020. However any activities that fall outside the year you are uploading to, will require you to accept the upload of that activity and verify that you wish to add it to another year.
- Note you can only upload activities from academic year 2019/20 onwards
Column F – Learners involved*
- Enter the UPN for all of the learners attending this activity, they need to be UPNs listed in your MIS for our system to recognise them
- Use a semi colon (;) to separate the learner UPNs
Column G – School Lead
- Select the cell in Column G and type in your School Lead
Column H – Notes
- Select the cell in Column H and type in your activity notes
Column I – PAL Compliance
- Select the cell in Column I and type in either ‘Yes’ Or ‘No’
- Please note: Once uploaded, this field will be reflected in the ‘View/Edit’ activities section only for Activities that include categories in Benchmarks 5,6 and 7.
Column J – Parent Attendance
- Select the cell in Column J and type in either ‘Yes’ Or ‘No’
