Read our step-by-step guide below, or watch the video walkthrough at the end of this article.
This article explains how to generate Future Skills Questionnaire (FSQ) links for learners that will then be distributed to them individually.
Please see How to send Future Skills Questionnaire links to learners by email or Mail Merge if you plan to distribute FSQ links to learners in bulk.
- FSQ links are generated in Compass +
- You can send FSQ links to learners via email (alternatively you can use Mail Merge)
- Any uncompleted links will expire on the 1st August every year
- FSQ questions are fixed, you cannot edit or add additional questions
- Questionnaires cannot be saved and returned to later
- FSQ responses are not pulled into your Compass evaluation
You can generate FSQ links for your learners in Compass+ by following these steps (note: you can only generate ONE questionnaire per learner each academic year.)
1. Log in to Compass+ using your email address and password - https://auth.careersandenterprise.co.uk/compassplus
2. From the main navigation bar go to Learner > Questionnaire
3. Check that the current academic year is selected, then choose the year group that you would like to generate questionnaire links for from the dropdown:
4. Select the "Generate new links" button to generate new questionnaire links:
5. A pop-up window will open. Here you need to select the questionnaire type that you would like the learners in that year group to complete:
6. Select the learner links you want to download:
- By selecting the tick box in the table header you can select all learners
- Select individual learners by checking the box next to their entry
- You can also filter the list of learners by form group or teaching group, just click on the upside down next to the column header
7. Once you have selected the learners, click the green "Generate links" button at the bottom of the screen:
8. You will be redirected back to the main page where you can see the questionnaire links listed for each learner:
9. Once you have generated the questionnaire links, you will need to download these and supply them to the individual learners.
Please note, each questionnaire link is specific to the individual learner and ensures that their questionnaire responses will be saved back to their Compass+ profile.
Once generated, you will need to share the correct link with the right learner.
10. Go to the green "Actions" button to the top right of the table, click "Download links":
11. Select the learner links you want to download:
- By selecting the tick box in the table header you can select all learners
- Select individual learners by checking the box next to their entry
- You can also filter the list of learners by form group or teaching group, click on the upside down next to the column header
12. Once you have selected the relevant learners whose links you want to download, click the green "Download links" button at the bottom of the screen:
13. A list of links will download to your computer as an Excel spreadsheet.
The questionnaire links will already formatted and 'live' in the spreadsheet so you don't have to format each link before sharing with learners
Increasing FSQ completions
Form groups and Teaching groups have been added to the questionnaire links table to make it easier for users to filter by ‘Questionnaire status’ and reach out to learners who have got a link to FSQ in their inbox, but haven’t completed it yet.
1. Click the upside down arrow next to the Form Group/Teaching Groups column header and select the relevant group(s):
2. Then click the upside down arrow next to the 'Questionnaire status' header and check the "Email delivered" tick box:
3. You will see a list of all the learners who are in that Form/Teaching group that have successfully received their link to FSQ in their inbox, but haven't completed it yet.
Invalid links
There are instances when users try to generate FSQ links when learner year group data is not up-to-date for the current academic year.
To stop issues relating to this, only learners who have an up-to-date year group will be displayed in the ‘Questionnaire’ section of Compass+.
Before generating Future Skills Questionnaire links for your learners, it is best practice to double-check that the learners you have selected to complete a specific questionnaire type are from the correct year group.
We have made an update to Compass+ so that if you generate an invalid link for a learner, the system can automatically detect this, and will:
- Mark any FSQ links as ‘invalid’ in the Questionnaire link column:
- Notify administrators via email in ‘real-time’, listing the learners that are affected asking you to regenerate the link for the learner on Compass+. Follow the guidance below on how to regenerate links.
Regenerating Future Skills Questionnaire links
When you’re generating FSQ links for learners, you need to ensure that your learners are in the correct year group for the academic year.
Please note: It’s best practice to always review your learner data in Compass+ to ensure that it correctly reflects your learners and their year groups in your Management Information System.
If it doesn't, there are a few reasons why this might be happening:
- Your MIS data might not be up to date
- There might be a problem with your Groupcall integration
- Your MIS data might not have synced correctly with Compass+
If you see an issue with your data, please contact our Help Desk who can support you to resolve this.
When your MIS data has synced properly with Compass+, we will be able to detect that the year group your learner was in when you first generated the links was incorrect. You will be able to identify invalid links by following the steps below.
First you need to identify the learners with invalid links before regenerating them:
1. From the main navigation bar, go to Learner > Questionnaire
2. Make sure you are regenerating links for the relevant academic year
3. Click on the green ‘Generate links’ button.. a pop-up box will appear
4. Select the relevant questionnaire
5. Filter by form or teaching group if required
6. Click on the downward triangle:
7. Tick the ‘Invalid Link’ box only:
8. All of the learners with invalid links will be displayed on screen:
9. Select the learners that you want to regenerate new links for (if you tick the box at the top of the column, all learners will be selected)
10. Click ‘Generate Link(s)’ at the bottom of the screen:
11. A green pop-up message will appear in the top right corner of the screen to notify you that links have been regenerated successfully.
Once invalid links have been regenerated, you can send them to learners manually or you can generate links and send to learners via email.

Please note: there is a slight difference with terminology in the video due to language changes in Compass+, but the core functionality of generating FSQ links for learners remains the same.
