When you are using Compass+ with a partner platform, Compass+ may flag some errors in the data you have exported. The guidance below explains how to troubleshoot typical errors that may occur when uploading activities.
Missing Activity Source Data
This means that Compass+ has not been able to recognise which partner platform the spreadsheet has been downloaded from:
To resolve: click on the dropdown arrow next to 'Select an option', and select your provider from the list. Then re-upload the spreadsheet to Compass+
Incorrect/invalid student UPNs on the spreadsheet
This means that the spreadsheet includes student Unique Pupil Numbers (UPNs) that are not in Compass+. In the following example, invalid UPN A106087045372 appears multiple times:
To resolve: remove/correct the invalid UPNs and re-upload. If you have the same invalid UPN a number of times in the spreadsheet, the quickest way to remove all entries of the invalid UPN is to use Excel’s find-and-replace feature by following these steps:
1. In your spreadsheet, press Ctrl+F or go to Home > Find & Select > Find.
2. Click 'Replace'
3. In the 'Find what:' field, enter the text that you want to remove
4. In the 'Replace with:' field enter the valid UPN (if you want to overwrite the invalid UPN), or leave blank to remove all entries of the invalid UPN.
5. Click 'OK' and close the 'Find and Replace' pop-up.
6. Re-upload the spreadsheet file.
In the example below, the user identifies UPN A106087045372 as the invalid UPN, and follows the steps above to correct:
Other common UPN errors include:
- Entries of “(no student id)” or “#N/A: in these scenarios, use Excel’s find-and-replace feature to quickly remove all invalid entries.
- If there is one invalid UPN in a list of thousands, the upload will fail until this is corrected.
- If the UPN is valid but Compass+ doesn’t recognise it, the sync between your MIS system and Compass+ may have failed. Please contact your IT Manager or raise a Compass+ helpdesk ticket for further support.
Note: UPNs are unique to each learner and follow them through their school careers, including between school and college. A learner’s UPN is generated in your MIS.
Activities listed outside of Plan academic year
This means that the spreadsheet to be uploaded contains activities for a different academic year than the one selected in Compass+:
To resolve: make sure that all activities are in your spreadsheet are in the same academic year. Remove activities from other years or create another spreadsheet for each academic year and re-upload.
