Compass+ is a free digital product from The Careers & Enterprise Company with features that help you to measure impact and inform continuous improvement of your careers provision.
Compass+ enables you to manage, track, evaluate and report on your institution’s careers provision at individual learner level.
To do this, we use learner data from your institutions’ Management Information System (MIS) pulled through to Compass+ by a digital platform called Xporter.
Xporter is managed by our specialist partner Community Brands, most commonly known as Groupcall. They provide data solutions for schools. We use Groupcall’s Xporter platform to manage the data feed between schools’ Management Information Systems and Compass+.
Data scopes
In Xporter, data fields are grouped into 'scopes'. Any data in an approved scope will be extracted from your MIS by Xporter, and stored safely so that it can then be made available to Compass+. The Groupcall 'Connector' then retrieves this data from Xporter and transforms it into the correct data format that is compatible to load into Compass+.
Compass+ only receives the specific data scopes that a school has approved to be used in Compass+.
Please note: It may be your IT/Data Manager that will be responsible for approving data scopes for Compass+.
We currently use two data scopes:
- Basic learner information (this is mandatory – Compass+ cannot work without this data!)
- Email scope (optional)
Your MIS data in Compass+
Individual learner data is held in the learner profile within Compass+. As well as basic details, the profile includes data to support the delivery of careers, for example registration groups and attendance data. We also retrieve data that relates to specific learner characteristics which are relevant to provided targeted careers support, such as special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and free school meals status. These help you to target and tailor provision to meet the specific needs of individual learners.
Data added to Compass+
Compass+ users can add extra information to the learner profile within Compass+. This information relates directly to the careers support provided to the individual learner whilst at your institution, this includes:
- Careers activities offered to and taken part in by the learner
- The learner's careers interests and intended destination (what they hope to do after leaving school)
- The learner’s actual destination (what they did for three years after leaving the school).
Please note: Actual destination data should be recorded as recommended in Gatsby Benchmark 3; to help you understand the impact of the careers support provided to the learner throughout their time at your institution - Schools can also send or share a link to our Future Skills Questionnaire (FSQ) directly with learners. FSQ is a tool that measures learners' career-readiness. Learner responses are saved in the learner profile to help you evaluate the effectiveness of your institution's careers programme.
